Credit Karma - Transition from Mint to Credit Karma
First I would like to say I don't rant, it's not helpful but I may a little in here, and sorry for that. This is a series of (hopefully) unfortunate events that I can't overcome.
By now, you are probably aware that Mint is shutting down. The original date for closure was Jan 1, 2024 but now I think that has moved to March 23, 2024. This is nice as it gives you more time to move things, just in case you have procrastinated like me!
Preparing to move from Mint
I knew this day was coming but I didn't like the change. I was reading that Credit Karma wasn't an apples to apples switch in terms of what features it had available. I did read that Credit Karma would continue to add features and thought migrating to this might be a good thing in disguise. Spoiler alert, still not happy. You would think you could trust Intuit, I thought a reputable company. Moving from Intuit to Intuit seem like a good thing.
Step 1 - Click the button to Credit Karma button
This takes you to Credit Karma. Pretty easy, let's sign up for an account. Type in some basic info and turns out I didn't change my address in Mint. Credit Karma didn't like this when trying to validate me and wouldn't let me sign up. A quick search or two and found out I should type my old address in. I moved over a year ago, 15 months ago! Bad start for a company that wants to watch my credit, right?
Finally, success. I made it past validation and can log in which takes me to the move my Mint data. Sounds good, authenticate and move the data. Slow down a little bit, there was an error. Please try again later. I would rather not! I fired up the chat and went through their chat bot. Of course, had no idea about the try again error so of to an agent. I like talking to real people, so props to Credit Karma for that. Said everything looked good and try to login again. Sure enough, I was in and up and running.
Using Credit Karma
I only wanted to track my spending in some categories. Thought it would be easy. There's so much junk in here about credit scores, credit cards, net worth, and things I wasn't really interested in. That's okay, I can get used to change. I did it, calling this good for a day.
The next day I'm trying to use this thing. Let's find some transactions, really wanted to see that a credit was applied to my checking account. I had no idea where to find it. Google is my friend! It's under net worth, doesn't make sense but let's go with it. Then I can see some categories. Sweet. Now how do I find transactions, yes, got it. Now how do I search, I don't think you can. Really?!? Let's go under the income section and look for that transaction. Nope, can't do that. Long story short, things I would think are basic functions for monitoring my money Credit Karma can't do. Let's go find a better App to do this! Should be that hard. Rocket Money here I come (free version of course). Credit Karma probably knows credit cards and my credit score. This is probably good enough.
Close My Credit Karma Account
After all this, I tried to remove accounts and delete my footprint in Credit Karma. I don't think everyone needs all this data. Let's work on closing the account. I couldn't find how to do it, screw it. Let's delete the whole thing and start over just for credit score. GRRRRRR. I can't do it, even with Googling! I found a page that shows how to do it, and of course, the instructions are out of date. I finally found YouTube video that shows how to do it, but it's for Apple and out of date. A quick scroll through the comments and bingo! Go to the help section and search for Cancel My Membership. In this help page it takes you to another page, and then another, and then can finally close your account.
Credit Karma - Bye Bye
Here's the end of my rant. After this experience, I don't really trust the Intuit brand like I used to. I still use Quicken for my business, but not sure I should continue after all this. What I won't use, is Credit Karma for credit scores or credit cards. You don't get my money, sorry. This was painful and an awful experience. Bye bye, Felicia!
